The work explores a simple black structure, which becomes a complex through its range of views. Work is not about the Object itself; It is about void and mass. The internal space of the object is removed and, at the same time, the void takes on a three dimensional form by assuming the physical properties of the sculpture that exists in the space of the room. The result is that void exists not as a window to somewhere else but as physical, tangible presence of the space of the viewer. This creats a type of pictorial space that speak as much to the space outside. It may be seen as interruptions in an otherwise unbroken flow of space. If you think of space as solid, Object is the void in that space. Using glass pieces , allowed viewer to have the remarkable ability to collapse the space of the room into the work. Although squars are very technically difficult to fabricate, their forms are very simple, maybe even a little plain. But something remarkable happens when you are standing by one them, you literally cannot take your eyes off them. It is like staring into a pool of very deep water. It consumes you. Like in Malevich's paintings, the experience of the work is somehow beyond its formal properties. One of the conclusion for my work is that the art does not exist in the material, but in the viewer's coherent experience of an artist's space. Art can only exist in your own experience. |
